The use of space and that singing!!! There were moments where your heart would swell and break at the same time.
What I didn't like
I enjoyed everything about the show, it was abstract in structure but clear in content. I loved one number where the cast accompanied part of a song with percussion from stomping & clapping. That could have been a nice tool to use throughout. But no complaints!
My overall impression
This is the kind of theatre that is so necessary. A powerful performance from the ensemble cast as they transformed The Lounge completely and brought us into a world of history, pain and perseverance. Words were woven throughout moments of movement, dance, sound recordings, and beautiful a cappella singing from Sandy Rather. It was a memorable and transformative experience that educates poetically on the black experience in america.
