What I liked
2 for 1 blew me away. I laughed. I cried. I wished I could experience it all over again.
Alyssa Virker combines striking dance and character work with the use of props and audio-visual aids to tell her story. Even though I have not fully watched some of the movies she references, I was able to clearly understand and relate to her message/social commentary, and I’m still thinking about her show days later. Alyssa’s solo act is expertly funny and remarkably creative.
Angela Beevers’ show is hilarious and heartfelt. She shares her relationship with her mom in the most charming and relatable way, pulling at your heartstrings in between the consistent laughs. She achieves a perfect balance of humor and grief with the help of props, wigs, and quick wit. She definitely follows through on the claim to make you laugh and cry.
What I didn't like
Wouldn’t change a thing. I loved every minute!
My overall impression
The two shows are so unique and different, yet somehow work together perfectly. Alyssa and Angela were both clever and genuine; their shows were moving, thought-provoking, and belly laugh-inducing. I was truly impressed and can’t wait to see what they do next.
