My overall impression

I’m so glad I made it out to this- I really didn’t know what to expect- I thought I would enjoy it, but my expectations were totally exceeded. I’m not a huge fan of shows at 3 clubs because even though it’s a lovely place it’s loud and crowded, but this show makes excellent use of the space. A giant powerhouse cast of great soloists kill it with their songs – a few stand out as faves, but the entire cast really brought it. I love the mix of pop and musical theatre. The strongest thing for me is the concept, which is carried out very well and is pleasantly self aware. I had a moment in the middle where I wondered if this was a sort of ok show to do- I mean- here we are watching 10 people in an asylum of some kind – this isn’t an activist kind of show- it’s not here to teach us about mental health – but it does a really excellent job of handling a very sensitive subject – Why does it work? What I went in expecting to be a campy farce was actually a committed piece of theatre- the actors portrayals were lovely and their song interpretation was very strong – it’s not a “heavy” night of theatre but in the Moment, the actors made these songs their reality and especially on the serious songs, that was just lovely to watch. Still laughing and marveling about how taking everything literally and out of context makes so many songs into the stories of crazy people.
