There were so many things I loved, most importantly I loved the social commentary and the thematic elements that drove the play. While I’ve never been in a fraternity, I found the characters struggles to be so relatable, and I imagine many others would feel the same, everyone longs to be accepted, and we can often surprise how ourselves with how far we are willing to go to achieve it. The acting was excellent overall, the characters were all very different and had strong and clear wants, and their interactions often played very well in creating both conflict and humor.
What I didn't like
There really wasn’t anything, if anything I would love to see this as a 2 act play, as I think the concept is so strong that I’d love to see it expanded.
My overall impression
This is likely going to be my favorite show I’ve seen at this year’s fringe, it fulfilled so many of my wants as a theatre-goer, it was smart, it was funny, it was rich with social commentary, and it was always engaging. I highly recommend seeing Pledge, I promise you will greatly enjoy it.
