I really enjoyed this solo show about a young woman named Evie Edwards who came to Hollywood during its heyday to make a name for herself in the movies, telling her story from the time she dreamed of being a star as a young girl living in a Hooverville. Speaking to all the unfair practices she encountered along the way, friends who helped and encouraged her, her father whose gambling would seal his fate, and then on to the popularity of the Hollywood Canteen for starlets during WWII, the bosses who expect more after hours, and all the usual propaganda that lured so many here to make it big only to find their lives in ruins, is just as true today and it was back then. The Girl Who Jumped Off the Hollywood Sign is a live show from Australia. It marks a return to the Hollywood Fringe from 2017, when I sadly missed it. From "sadly" you can guess at my genuine joy at catching it this year.... full review

A quivering take on luck, fate, talent, and truth when it comes to the will you or won't you of making it in Hollywood. YOU MUST SEE THIS KILLER ONE-WOMAN SHOW ! Australian actress Joanne Hartstone has written a brilliant biography of a fictional actress who goes through the mill of golden-age Hollywood. Hartstone is a wonderful actress and singer; her American accent is flawless (I did not have a clue she was Australian til her final post-show announcement). Heartbreaking story of a beautiful, great singer told by an agent she is not beautiful enough or a good enough singer, narrated from the top of the Hollywood sign. Winner of 2 Adelaide Fringe awards, top-notched, not to be missed.... full review
