What I liked
She recreates the horror of what these individuals go through in a succinct and raw way – using sound, movement and video to re-create the journey/experience of the toy. It’s not sentimentalized; it’s not exaggerated; it’s just exposed and it’s completely horrific. I’m still upset and I should be. Christina ignited her audience with knowledge and raised awareness for a problem that cannot be ignored.
What I didn't like
there is not a single thing I would change about this performance.
My overall impression
I wanted to give Christina a standing ovation, but at the end of her performance, I was too affected to move. What she does is truly amazing. She takes us from a bright shiny, optimistic toy to an abused, broken, nearly dead human in under 20 minutes. It’s horrifying (in a digestible way) and drives home the necessity of fighting sex trafficking. I am so completely in awe of Christina’s work as an artist and as an activist. I can’t recommend this show enough.
