Hailed by Vibe Magazine as “King of the Underground,” Actor-Comedian-Thought Gangsta Scruncho has mesmerized audiences around the country with his raw brand of street-conscious humor since 1996. Born Anthony McKinley, the self-proclaimed “black sheep of the family” made his unorthodox stage debut when he ran into a comedy club, jumped on stage, and pretended to be a comedian in an attempt to avoid the police who were hot on his heels. To his surprise, he actually got laughs.
Called a hybrid of Martin Lawrence and Richard Pryor, Scruncho has played the major comedy clubs across the country, served as a writer for the HBO series 1st Amendment Stand-up, and BET’s ComicView. Additionally, he found his place touring as the feature act for Dr. Dre, Mike Epps and Eddie Griffin, and has also appeared alongside Morgan Freeman, Epps, Danny Devito, Jamie Foxx, John Amos, and Snoop Dogg, and been featured in numerous films such as How High with Epps and Snoop Dogg, For the Love of Money, School Dance with Kevin Hart and Nick Cannon, Watermelon Heist, Rude Boy, and the upcoming feature, Sliders.
His “thug-like” exterior often betrays the warm, outgoing personality that has endeared him to underground and mainstream audiences alike. Equally adept at dramatic roles, his candid, one-man tour de force All I Needed Was a Hug, produced by Emmy Award-winning media maven Sherri Shepherd and her partner Kim Tavares, chronicles his journey as a neglected child who sought love and acceptance in the mean streets of Los Angeles, only to follow the well-worn path into prison. God and a microphone would prove to be his salvation and entrée into a successful career in entertainment.
Known for his energetic, mile-a-second delivery, and a larger-than-life stage persona, transforming the Long Beach native is one of stand-up’s most riveting headliners. His heart-stopping performances are dizzying display of hilarity, passion, spirituality, and authentic street hustler charisma that prompts audiences to laugh, cry, think, and laugh again.
