Tonya is the real Sporty Spice. I believe that the opportunity to play football saved her life, providing an outlet for a girl who must have felt so powerless. No child should have to endure such sexual violence and it broke my heart that she felt she had no caregiver to turn to for protection. I believe this show is making a difference because it serves as a reminder that we must communicate that we are there to listen to and protect our young. Her characters were seamless and her acting was raw. She is an incredible example of how one woman can triumph over extreme trauma.

My overall impression
Tonya’s willingness to leave it all out there on the stage, without sugar coating it, caused me to dive deeper into my own soul to the places I still carry shame. Her vulnerability empowered me to face and embrace my own pain. I walked away feeling inspired to continue to share my own truth because that is the only way change can happen. She is a warrior princess in my eyes.
