What I liked
The way the “disease” voice (and other characters) were posted via video so that Kate could interact with “herself” and this expanded her repetoire in solo performance. Clever! The performance itself was very funny and at the end, when she reveals herself in a very personal way, I was moved and I applaud her courage. That is the image that stays with me. It was honest and brave and it hit me right in the heart.
What I didn't like
Really the only part I’d suggest looking at was the end, this is an ongoing story, which doesn’t really have an “end” because as with any addiction, disordered eating is chronic, and at the same time because this is a crafted piece of art, perhaps she could give herself permission to create more of a resolution at the end for the sake of her audience? This is, however, a personal preference, and terribly “American” of me. I loved the show!
My overall impression
Kate shares some difficult truths and makes it a joy to learn about the neurological facts of OCD and disordered eating— a pretty amazing feat! Her characters were funny and distinctive and playful. Her personal conversations with her “disease” were insightful and enlightening.
