What I liked

The interplay between the singer and accompanist was great. Waddell’s respect for Sherman shone through in her performance. The choreography always kept things interesting. I liked that it wasn’t just song after song and that she gave us glimpses of Sherman’s life and what inspired his music. The program has some trivia relevant to the songs in the show that helps clue you in if you were born after the ’60s.

What I didn't like

The sound quality from the speakers amplifying her voice wasn’t great. It was such an intimate space, it probably would have sounded better without the microphone.

My overall impression

An energetic journey through Allan Sherman’s oeuvre. Great pairing of talented singer with a skillful accompanist. History on Sherman is woven in between the songs. Even if you don’t know who Allan Sherman is, you can still appreciate the effectively delivered broad, Jewish humor.
