What I liked

The appropriately named “Piñata” is chock full of treats. Scott Mullen’s play bursts with clever conceits and plenty of laughs and Stan Zimmerman’s strong direction makes it all pop with a perky pace and comic panache. Tracy Eliott, Starina Johnson, and Tracey Rooney are pitch perfect as the three very different mothers who deal with being stuck in a penalty box at a birthday party.

What I didn't like

The playwright aims for depth late in the proceedings and the contrived confessional pap each actress has to deliver slows things down a bit in this otherwise swift and silly piece. But every piñata has some candy nobody likes. The rest is delicious, wholly satisfying and well worth the visit.

My overall impression

You’d be hard-pressed to find a more delightful way to spend an hour than with these fine actresses and their “mommy” issues.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
