What I liked

I liked the shows honesty. Although, Jennie’s mom was obviously very Jewish, her experience as a daughter was something that breaks through cultural, racial, and generational walls. I RELATE.

I enjoyed the small intimate theater. Close enough to get lost in her world.

What I didn't like

Not one thing.

My overall impression

Jennie Fahn was absolutely brilliant tonight in her one woman show “Under The Jello Mold”. Funny, energetic, and entertaining accounts of her life with her mom from the beginning to the end. Through her animated stage work, I saw Jannie as a little girl. I saw her mom as a young beautiful woman. I saw Jannie as an adult child. I saw her mom as an elderly grandma. Her mom was loud. she was sassy. She was charming. She was mean. She was funny. She was proud. As I watched, I felt me as Jannie, a daughter, feeling frustrated, scared, and sad. I knew what the show was about when I bought the tickets. I knew it was about her losing her mom. But I didn’t want her mom to die. Jannie has done the work. She has made peace. She cherishes all the complications of her mother and her memories. She reenacted cleverly picked out conversations and interactions with her mom to sum up so much of what needed to be said about her mom. If you have a mom, had a mom. have someone like a mom, you can’t miss this show. I am grateful to have experienced her journey while my mom is still with me.
