What I liked
The Clash’s greatest hits are smartly intertwined by writer Peggy Lewis to tell the story of a young British band’s struggle to realization of their dreams.
Vince Jones does an excellent musical arrangement, making the songs accessible to not only Clash fans, but all music lovers.
Held together by the charismatic, punk meets Bon Jovi-esque, Sam Meader; all of the cast authentically deliver at every point. With a simplistic set for the Fringe, I particularly enjoyed the use of two burlesque punk dancers to inform us where we were and set the scene.
What I didn't like
This was a preview and with the limitation of recorded music, rather than a live band, there did seem to be a few technical issues. However, I’m sure these will be easily fixed for the public run.
My overall impression
Overall, LONDONCALLING is a brilliant show and concept, with a story anyone can relate to. If you love music, let alone The Clash, you are sure to enjoy it.
