What I liked
Wonderful cast, amazingly dextrous and clever lyrics, great energy! Specifically, there’s a really hilarious send up of The Sound Of Music’s “16 Going on 17” — 9 Going on 10 — that I especially loved, having watched that movie way too much.

My overall impression
I’m so happy I got to catch this show! It’s definitely one to add to your Fringe scheduled viewing. This fresh young cast does a tremendous job creating a full piece of musical theater from only themselves— even accompaniment is provided from one dude on a mic in the corner, beatboxing. They deal with the usual tropes of divorce— heartbreak, jealousy, even custody and alimony— only since it’s set in the 4th grade, it takes what’s generally a pretty glum subject and makes it hilarious. I really loved the way they played with the conventions of both hip hop and relationships through the lens of these 9-10 year old characters, which also lends a certain sweetness to it— though don’t be fooled, you’ll definitely hear some f-bombs dropped (there’s a great bit with one 4th grade girl rapping about sexuality that, in horror, realizes she doesn’t actually understand.) The whole cast is excellent, and I was impressed with their facility with what were often pretty intricate, rapidly delivered lines, and they always performed their choreography with fully committed energy.
