Set entirely in a disheveled living room, Revenge on Reality follows Todd, a young writer, working on a play and questioning the nature of his existence. Over the course of 5 scenes (individually titled “I Am Not A Writer”, “What The Russian’s Call Mauve”, “A Remarkably Standard Plot Element”, “Stranger Interlude” and “Technically A Writer”) Todd attempts to open the mind of his roommate, Ben, while Ben fervently resists Todd’s wild theories. As Todd spirals deeper and deeper into seeming insanity, Ben’s understanding of his own reality starts to crack. It’s an odd, existential journey, full of meta humor that only becomes more self aware as the show goes. The script is both self-indulgent and self-deprecating, and wanders through realms of philosophy, literary analysis, bad puns and dirty jokes, while making references to everything from Shakespeare to Seinfeld.
