What I liked
Her inspirational meditations prove worthy material as she dismantles and then re-constructs her identity and in her performance she establishes a great rapport with male and female audience members alike, guiding us into the rings of fashion hell, as she escapes into the next incarnation more vital and confident.What I didn't like
The scene transitions are well illuminated by the lights shifts but clearer justification to seque into those episodes such as her academic talk to her fashionista rant needs to be more clearly marked and significantly more nuanced with pace-tempo-pitch. The lyrics of the song sometimes got swallowed up in the passion of the playing. The sequence of events in the play seemed episodic, which is fine, but I wanted to see a more heightening up of the scenes leading to the vampire shoppers in Beverly Hills meltdown. The first time in front of a live audience is very revealing and intense. The inyteraction with audience will become more natural and the flow of the show will find its ultimate rhythm as the writing is good and performance a knockout.
My overall impression
Brave sexy and inspired truth telling through song, irony and fashion. Varda grabs hold of the piano like a lyrical mechanic shaking up the motor of truth.
