About the Project
This show is an original collaborative exploration into female rock and pop legends. How did they become who they are? What inspired them? Where are the parallels between these people? And most importantly: why and how does the mass public come to hate them? What separates the female stars from their male counterparts, even their husbands? The show would center on powerhouses like Courtney Love, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Janis Joplin, Patti Smith, Nina Simone, Tina Turner. It would also draw parallels to fictional female legends from works like Shakespeare, Brecht, and myths. The show would be a mix of dialogue a la Caryl Churchill’s Top Girls, real snippets from interviews and headlines, and of course live performance of songs.
