As a theater nerd, I am always up for revisionist Shakespeare. I liked the addition of such moderne references—the witches being reduced to juts one drag queen, MacDeth sending text to Lady MacDeth, the running gag about not being able to afford another cast member to play Banquo’s son. The play moves along at a nice clip and the costumes are just enough to suspend disbelief for the audience.
What I didn't like
The political element that gets introduced towards the end of the show seems tacked on and lacks the clever word play or humor of the show up until then. It’s drags the pacing to a halt and makes the show seem 10 minutes too long.
My overall impression
If you’re a nerd that loves revisionist Shakespeare, this comedy is for you. The play moves along at a nice clip—although the end gets bogged down with tacked on political rhetoric that doesn’t seem to fit the mood and tone of the piece up until then. But there are plenty of laughs prior to that, and for those I say “thanks!”
