My overall impression

This play is brutally honest in a way that manages to be simultaneously laugh-out-loud funny and deeply poignant. I found myself laughing and crying along with Terri and cheering along with her message of self-love and empowerment. Terri’s story is one that resonates in many ways with anyone who has ever tried to “make it” in LA, anyone who has every been told they aren’t good enough, that they don’t look right, that they don’t/won’t/can’t fit into the arbitrary cookie cutter mold of “beauty” or “success.” Terri’s retelling of her journey is inspirational, brave, touching and beautiful and her message is both reaffirming and empowering. It is a message everyone needs to hear, and what better way to hear it than through an entertaining performance by someone who has lived it? Someone who has been told numerous times, in countless ways that she isn’t good enough, that she doesn’t look right, that she’ll never make it. Someone who has had to absorb all that and has chosen to tell the world to FUCK IT, who has chosen to love herself, to love her body, and to reject the idea that there is a prescribed way someone “should” look in order to pursue her dream. Terri is a talented performer, actress, and singer who moves seamlessly from one character to another with great charm and charisma. Terri and Bobby are a very strong writer/composer team and the piece benefits from the strong direction and choreography as well.
