What I liked
I Stumbled upon this show with a friend, and I am very glad I did. You feel immersed in the “noir” era throughout the whole production- the live trumpet player was an excellent musical choice. Lauren B.might very well be one of the most talented female singers the fringe has to offer; she definitely outshines many of the other weaker singers (almost to a fault). Arielle F., though a smaller part, gave her a run for her money with her comedic timing playing the stage hand. I saw on these girls profiles that they are in other fringe shows, shows which I plan on now attending. The two lead detectives (Max L. and Nathan O.) were very well cast- both performing fast paced dialogue with an imperturbable consistency. I enjoyed how they broke out of their Noir “stereotypes” (Max L. as the suave front man and Nathan the quirky sidekick) and almost ended up landing in opposite places. It was smart casting evenly talented with the detectives- it keeps the “team” element believable. I also enjoyed Adam L.’s comedic styling, it added a wacky element. I am more than impressed by the original script and score, Dan S. clearly has a way with words that most writers could only dream of having. This show deserves to be seen, I admittedly go to most fringe shows expecting mild campiness and disappointment- you will not find that here.
What I didn't like
shorten the show to 2 hours.. it will make all the difference from an audience perspective.
My overall impression
the beginning stages of something that will grow into an excellent show-stopping musical. I for see this show going places.
