Using charming voices and mannerisms, Deana Barone quickly and seamlessly introduces us to members of her immediate family, and even gently invites us in to participate. Once inside, we are instantly immersed in the terrible wonders of stifling encouragement, thankless care-giving and the deepest of labor-intensive love. Deana hides nothing behind her “transparent eyes;” she courageously bares her soul with frightening intimacy, all the while reassuring us that we—and therefore she—will be safe. A moving piece highlighted by many astonishingly moving moments.
What I didn't like
While the “Music Up” cues seem, at times, a bit loud and abrupt (to no apparent dramatic effect), all is forgive once they are over and Deana starts speaking again.
My overall impression
Deana is a master storyteller and a fearless artist. I will probably go out of my way to see anything else she does.
