The Toxic Avenger Musical

Janet Miller nailed it. Excellently produced, directed and choreographed. A crazy premise that makes for a riotous evening of exquisite comic timing delivered by a perfectly cast troop. Seamless in its delivery and perfectly zany. Each and every cast member is a jewel. A hilarious experience in an alternative reality complemented by Corey Hirsch musicians and the entire production staff from costumers to crew (some of whom turned into delightful performers as well!). The costumes were beautiful and perfect. Even the white guy and black guy who wore a dozen different costumes all had full images. The minimal set pieces fit in just fine. The performances were captivating enough that I didn’t need big set pieces. Toxie - Jared Reed - I was blown away with the polarization of character between “Melvin” and “Toxie”. I don’t know “Toxic Avenger” well. But I can only guess that in most productions these parts are played by different actors. If you’re lucky enough to have Jared Reed, thats all you need. His singing voice was spectacular. His acting on point. He somehow makes you fall in love with the toxic slime mutant he becomes. Wonderful! One of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Genius direction to get it all working. Hate to see any diminishment of what is such a good time, and take issue with critical comparisons as if this show doesn't measure up. Just getting everyone in and out of costumes and on and off the stage was some kind of mastery. Am overcome by wanting to help them continue it.... full review
