What I liked

The dark humor, the writing, the talented cast and the FABULOUS knife fights. Great idea…taking the cliche of the mousy librarian and how her greatest gift is as an assassin. I think this could be a movie….oh wait…it kinda was….SPY (but “Librarians” started in the world first I think).

Lauren Van Kurin made a fabulous librarian/assassin. I completely believed her in both roles! She was sexy in her glasses, bun and bow-tied blouse, and then she could change into a stone killer (still with the bun and glasses!) and participate in these amazingly funny and effective fight scenes. Eric Giancoli as her “handler” was also a stand-out. Loved his wry delivery and how he created “Lancaster’s” ego and heartbreak. The whole show was cast, well rehearsed and hugely talented. The love story with the “cleaner” (who must take care of the mess—and all the dead bodies—the librarian creates) is very sweet and works well.

What I didn't like

Found it a little redundant at times and found myself waiting for another set of knife throwing feats. Perhaps this is from the fact that it was a serial show (I never saw the “Serial Killers” series at Sacred Fools, but from what I understand, a new segment is added each week to the winning “serial killer” scenerio. “Librarians” won the season). Many scene blackouts often took me out of the action, but again, it’s probably due to the “serial” nature of the original idea/production.

My overall impression

Talented cast, funny writing, loved the action—-(you GOT to see the show just for the knife fights!!) “Librarians” is one of my favorite shows at the Fringe! See it before it closes!
