Seeing McCready in this venue gave the audience an engrossing look into the many phrases of the titular character. Led by Jen Blake – who delivers a hurricane of a performance – the virtuosic cast steadily moves between sharp dialogue and touchingly simple musical arrangements.
What I didn't like
With a company of five – many of whom doubled/tripled parts and acted as stage crew – transitioning between so many formative events in only 65 minutes sometimes felt jarring. A longer format – while giving the cast more time to breathe – could serve the material in a way that makes Mindy’s demise feel more like a spiral and less of a straight rocket into the depths.
My overall impression
Wonderful cast carries a story laced with earnest emotion from the country airwaves into a story that will linger long after the lights go down.
