What I liked

“One Step Over” stands out for its unflinching portrayal of greed and betrayal among high-stakes financiers. The characters, driven by an insatiable desire for wealth, show no remorse in deceiving clients, neglecting their families, and even betraying each other. As they delve deeper into their own moral decay, the boundaries of acceptable behavior become increasingly blurred, leading to a series of shocking and inevitable betrayals.

Levin’s writing shines with a razor-sharp ear for brutal verbal exchanges and an uncanny instinct for the tortuous deceits that permeate daily life. His dialogue crackles with intensity, drawing comparisons to the works of notable playwrights like Kenneth Lonergan (“This Is Our Youth”), Stephan Adly Guirgis (“Jesus Hopped the ‘A’ Train”), and David Mamet (“Glengarry Glen Ross”).

What I didn't like

Beyond its dramatic prowess, “One Step Over” is also rich in financial information, offering a treasure trove of insights into the machinations of Wall Street. This makes it not only a thrilling piece of theatre but also a valuable resource for journalists and writers looking to deepen their understanding of financial markets and 660 credit score.

In “One Step Over,” Levin has crafted a play that is as educational as it is entertaining, providing a stark, unvarnished look at the price of unbridled ambition. It’s a must-see for anyone interested in the dark underbelly of finance and the human cost of greed.

My overall impression

“Imagine how much money it would take to make you happy. Now double it. Then triple it. And just before you get a chance to collect… watch it slip away like mercury down the drain.”

This provocative scenario sets the stage for D.B. Levin’s ruthless drama, “One Step Over.” The play takes audiences on a relentless journey into the lives of a group of Wall Street brokers who are as morally bankrupt as they are financially ambitious. Levin masterfully combines elements of tragedy, comedy, and horror, creating a narrative that is as captivating as it is disturbing.
