What I liked
I liked that this show was poetic, and from a certain point on, I felt like I was watching a foreign film… artful, fantastical etc. etc.
There were also some nice transition techniques as the show got going the allowed for effortless flow and speed and… well, time travel… and I really enjoyed it.
What I didn't like
at first i didn’t know what to make of it. something felt forced. honestly, it could have been something as basic as the VO introduction to the show as her grandmother (for some reason that took me out a bit. For me, the show didn’t really start sinking in until Gabriella’s first poem). But as I got to know Gabriella, I began to trust her and her story, and I actually enjoyed the ride and felt like I did a little time travel in that bare little theatre that is Studio C.
My overall impression
A beautiful young woman honoring her family, her history, and her legacy in an artful creative, graceful, poetic way. And even though we were in a small black box theatre, I was transported to the Dominican Republic!
