What I liked
The set. The music. The direction. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I cried (twice) and laughed (multiple times). It was charmingly funny as well as heartbreaking. Gabriela Ortega is a blast to watch perform and I could watch her for hours. The writing was truly beautiful and poetic. It could’ve been so easy for me to get lost within the time jumps, but I never once found myself lost. I loved how the costume changes were so simple but I still saw the differences between the two worlds and women yet the connection between them, as well. Also, Gabriela is a beautiful singer.
What I didn't like
I left wishing it could’ve been longer but I honestly feel it was the perfect length. That being said, I would love to see more of the story as well.
My overall impression
I left Las Garcia feeling good. I left feeling inspired. I left longing to know who my own grandmother was, who had passed before I even got to meet her. I wondered how she was and what she went through and what choices she had to make. I wondered what she fought for. Las Garcia has inspired me to fight for what I want in life and fight for things that are important. It inspired me to take pride in who I am, where I come from, and those who came before me. Las Garcia is heartwarming and beautiful. It’s a wonderful feeling when you watch a production and it makes you feel so strongly in a positive way. Take note. This show is a gem and Gabriela Ortega is a star in the making. I am so honored to have had the chance to witness her talent and her passion and to have had her give me the chance to share a little piece of her heart as well. You won’t want to miss Las Garcia!
