What I liked

The actor obviously did an extreme amount of work on this. Or, he has the natural inclination himself to understand the truths of living which Tru experienced and indeed, felt he needed to share with others. And, I am certain that even Truman Capote knew how to share. Regardless, this performance was beyond ‘acting’. This was behaving. Being. A spell. The real thing.

What I didn't like

The venue has woeful and enduring issues, although the bar is beautiful, and could be shown in a better light; and with the right staff. The pre-show sound level was excruciating – it sent yours truly and a senior gentleman out to the bar until, as I witnessed, one individual appeared to claim his seat. The curtain was significantly held for whomever this was. Nevertheless, this is not nice to audience or performer.

My overall impression

A masterful portrayal! A rare connection of player and material. An extremely well balanced play with an extremely and delicately unbalanced protagonist forever seeking balance. Truman Capote was a bold and unapologetic ancient archetype. I suppose any other time period that he might have been born into the world on, September 30th (you do the math…) very well could have exhibited similar results in human triumph and foible.
