My overall impression
TU’s performance of “Sleeping Around” was a pleasantly diverse buffet of different characters and their dysfunctional, disappointing, and diverting sex lives. The play’s structure, overlapping duet scenes that kept a revolving door of these colorful characters, coupled with a simplicity of set design and scene transitions kept the play moving with great momentum. Every actor had a couple of scenes to bring to life the sometimes amusing, sometimes heartbreaking reality of their romantic lives. The strength of the play lies in the strength of it’s ensemble and their ability to make each scene a fresh moment, no two intimate encounters the same, in content or dynamic. My only regret is that I couldn’t spend more time seeing these people live out the pursuit of their romantic desires. It speaks volumes to the talent of TU’s ensemble that I was left pondering these character’s fates.
