My overall impression
Sorry to say it took me a whole year to finally see this! And it was just as alive and funny as I anticipated. I really enjoyed the media “opening credits” sequence and the freeze vignettes (my favorite Mona moment), perfectly transporting me from live theatre to… well, every old tv show I grew up watching, and back to live theatre, seamlessly. The ensemble brings a non-stop physical energy to the stage with each role from the ruthless Mob Boss, the smarmy Agent, the hungry Bartender, the reckless Detective duo, to the paper boy. Damien and Summer are like watching a seasoned SNL skit that you look forward to recurring each week. There are quirks and subtleties I didn’t remember about Judith Light until I saw the characterization come to “…light” on stage. And not a beat was missed with Tony’s lovable, corny, New York Boxer personae… though I really would have loved a smackin’ tap number from the song and dance man. Familiarity with Who’s the Boss is not necessary to enjoy this far-fetched parody. But there’s much more to delight in when you know the gossip about Danny Pintauro and Alyssa Milano during and post sitcom.
