Jaime Andrews' fact-based fairytale, COOKIE AND THE MONSTER, stomps into humorous and disturbing life in this year's Fringe at Theatre of NOTE. While it's easy for audience members to root for Cookie as a kindergartner whose imaginary Monster inspires her to stand up to bullies and shout at hypocrisies, our identification with her--and willingness to laugh at her--grows more troubling when the Monster's advice eventually leads her into drugs, promiscuity and adult nightclubs. Ms. Andrews throws herself and her considerable, big-eyed talents into a somewhat autobiographical role (full disclosure: Ms. Andrews did voice-over work on a previous production of mine) and Scott Leggett punches up a husky, hearty Monster who never fails to come up ... full review

Great time at this show. The monster was great. I wish the monsters had interacted more, but other than that, it was a wild ride witnessing the demon inside! Will recommend to friends. ... full review

Another one of my "Best of Fringe"! Me and my monster enjoyed this sold out dark tragicomic play at our favorite Theater of Note a lot!! Bravo, bravo - superior acting, writing, production, stage set... (Ps. I have a crush on Sky guy - which makes my monster very jealous... we'll work it out) Thanks guys, will totally recommend you!!!... full review

i really enjoyed Cookie And The Monster, and as someone who has created many solo shows, I loved seeing the world come alive around Cookie. The show has a rhythm of it's own and it takes a dark turn, but the turn, for me, as a 14 year old who was hospitalized due to some of the chaos that Cookie goes through is so relatable. I felt for cookie and admired her strength, as some of my monsters still keep me up at night. At one point in time, I experienced a moment that seemed very graphic novel-esque. I know the exact staging and lighting, but I can't recall the exact point, but for me, this could easily be transformed into a graphic novel. Loved the side characters... loved the monsters... and yes, rooting for Cookie, bj's and monsters and all... full review

I was delighted to have caught a performance of Cookie & The Monster. A very worthy play with dedicated actors (As always with Sacred Fools peeps). I'll go see anything and everything that is in the dark comedy genre and this cuts right to the veins with the rest of em'. Very slick directing. There are a lot of scene, time and location changes but the cast keeps the pace up the entire time. Great costumes and some beautiful choreographed moments create lovely picturesque moments that show off that the director has an eye for composition. The play feels so personal and honest and is clever way to address the dark monsters that we feel bubble up and overtake our lives. If you love to laugh at the most brutally uncomfortable moments in life, t... full review
