What I liked

It’s a Broadway Musical Theater Queen’s dream come true. A Cast of iconic characters from Broadway (Annie, Harold Hill, Maria, Jean Val Jean) are set upon in the Land of Musicals by cinema’s the Alien (the one designed by HR Giger). As the monster begins a killing spree (superb puppet work), Maria begins to take on aspects of Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley. The lyrics are a cut above the rest, and the songs are decent pastiches of well-known Broadway tunes: here Annie sings “There’s No Tomorrow.”

What I didn't like

Some characters need developing. Effie (of “Dreamgirls” fame) is just this sassy black entertainer who needs to be heard.

My overall impression

While I can’t say I got bored, the show by nature is redundant, and the tunes aren’t so clever that it made my ears prick up. The hardworking cast is having a blast (I especially liked Annie), but there’s an amateurish quality that keeps this Fringebound for life. Yes, it’s all silly fun, but my god what this show could be with more depth of story and character development. No one will be disappointed by seeing it.
