My overall impression
You might think that all you need to know about this show is in the title, but you’d be mistaken. The title doesn’t tell you how clever the lyrics are, how fantastic the vocals are, or how spot-on the performances are. One might be tempted to call them impressions but that doesn’t do justice to how fully and three-dimensionalally these characters are lived (admittedly in some cases rather briefly).
The on stage use practical lights works very well to convey a few different moods & elements over the course of the piece. Easily my favorite sight gag/reference was completely unexpected, perfectly executed, and almost no time at all, I only wish there had been an actual pipe-organ available for it.
The only person to whom I would not recommend this show is someone who literally hates musicals. Even a person completely lacking a sense of humor would be able to enjoy this show taken at face value. But people will sing, for much of the time you are there, and there will also be dancing. If you are board with that buy your ticket now, before the run is sold out. That way, when this is expanded to a full two-act show you can tell all your friends you saw it at Fringe, first.
