My overall impression
If you can get tickets, GO! Four Clowns always moves me to laughter… and often to tears. This show is bawdy comedy, impressive acrobatics and polished showmanship…all with a raw, off-the-cuff feel that involves the audience by keeping the performance alive with an electric sense of physical and improvisational danger. Disguised as a loose Vaudevillian variety show full of taboo humor and gags, the cartoonish characters still evoke empathy, and each turn out to have a soul, a purpose, and a transformational journey. Ultimately all the crazy energy opens us up to profound sympathy and tenderness for two of the characters, and their relationship touches us more deeply than if we hadn’t laughed and loosened up.
