My overall impression
I’d say my thought were provoked and senses entertained. Bella embodied Nell Gwynne effortlessly, with a beautiful portrayal of old time, English vaudeville life, was fun.
Nell, however, made some points that drew parallels to females in the entertainment industry today. Hyper-sexual images that overstate, in some cases incredible talent, in order to draw the attention of viewers to be entertained. Understanding the nature of “the business,” those that took control of their life and image, like Nell, rode to the top, and funny enough, become “human” enough to relate to. I do not want to make people think that this piece is all serious business, people it is not.
Nell Gwynne, as a character is a lot of fun to get to know. And in all honesty, if she were still alive today, I would say the same thing. Catch this show if you can. You will really be delighted you did.
