My overall impression

Bravo! Chitlin Blues was an incredibly bold and powerful piece. I felt 100% transported back in time. Chitlin Blues accomplished with movement and song what no amount of words could – the show spread a deep feeling of the shared pain, suffering, and injustice that humanity inflicts on itself. It gave me goosebumps! The incredibly skilled and technical movements of the performers told not just their story, but many stories, using repetition and emotional expression to create a rich landscape onto which the audience can project scenario after scenario after scenario. Constance’s writing eloquently and vividly brought out the neglected side of the vaudeville era – the pain and cruelty behind the smiling song and dance. The piece bravely dived into a medium and subject matter that most theatrical shows wouldn’t dare touch. I would gladly see it again.
