My overall impression
Playwright/lead actress Marina Palmier fully owns the charm, vulnerability and nuanced hubris of the quirky title character in this delightfully outrageous comedy about a retired Latina talk-show host who uses her celebrity mystique and powers of feminine allure to woo a naïve young gentleman into a romantic scenario full of laugh-out-loud surprises within a playful approach to addressing relevant racial issues within the Hispanic/Latino community that are often at the heart of this playwright’s work. Having glimpsed this piece in various stages of the script development process, I was very excited to see this particular Fringe offering come to life on stage, and it delivers; the chemistry between the two lead characters is electric as they navigate the outlandish twists and turns in this romp of a seduction dance. Don’t miss this one.
