My overall impression
I found Waitless to be a very charming piece of theater. This is a simple story of a woman feeling alienated for a handful of reasons and finds her outlet for self-strength. Is this outlet grandiose? Not particularly but it’s real and relatable. Perhaps the piece resonates for me as a female, but I think other women will respond to the character of Shelley’s, journey of self worth.
The piece is smartly directed, cleverly balancing a lengthy monologue of one character and the collection of other characters, all played by the other actor. Both performances were solid and skillfully executed. At first glance this may seem like a simple production but don’t let the sparse stage fool you. Credit needs to be given to the level of precision taken by the actors and director, the multitude of detail in this production flows very smoothly and would prove cumbersome in lesser skilled hands.
