PICASSO’S WOMEN: THE DARKER SIDE OF GENIUS

A friend suggested I see this play and I’m so glad we did. Premise: The most important women in Picasso’s life meet to discuss and cuss the genius artist. Two actors play the younger and the mature(?) Picasso who like a specter floats into and out of the discussions, sometimes interacting, sometimes just commenting, sometimes just in the background painting. The Director, known only as Aramazd, keeps the pace up and the tension up while sliding back and forth in time and place, and, projecting Picasso’s art and personal photographs onto the background. Each and every actor gives a strong and touching performance revealing the strengths, weaknesses and sometimes pettiness of each character. We observe the joy and the pain of love, loss, hope and despair. And every now and then, have a good laugh at it all. GO see this play.
