OPEN MIKE

Mike Cline is a man who I had seen on stage many years ago in several Broadway shows… only I didn’t realize it. He’s lived a crazy life and has captured every inch of it on stage and in his script… awkward funny stories of his youth, tragic and heart wrenching stories of his family and musical numbers that enhance the show and tell even more of the story! If you want to know how to do a one person musical, this is the show to see and… it always amazes me when someone puts their life on stage, knows how to edit their own life and knows how to SHOW BIZ up their life with timing and delivery! With unfailing charm and honesty, Cline exposes his life and trials with grace, wit, and exceptionally well-written songs. In what could easily have become another maudlin story of a "survivor" (which he truly is), he manages to vividly recreate the people, places and events which made him who is with such clarity, specificity,and good humor that he leaves the audience feeling priveleged to have spent the time with him. Yes, Mike was great with the singing, dancing, timing of his lines, etc. - all those things successful actors are expected to do. But what makes this play stand out was his ability to be so open to his audience with personal, intimate details of his life. His openness (thus the title "Open Mike") left me thinking how interesting this man is. I cannot imagine someone watching Mike tell his story and not feel moved emotionally. I've heard that the definition of a friend is someone who knows so many things about you and they STILL like you. Thanks Mike for sharing your story in such an entertaining way.... full review
