I went into this with such intensely high hopes!!!
An incredible story interpreted through movement to some of my favorite music???
Unfortunately, I think that the lack of training hindered the movers, and they were unable to completely lose themselves in the emotion of the piece because of this.
The masquerade sequence was a standout for me, because it was one of the only times that I felt the artists onstage were being courageous enough to allow the story to speak for itself.
Epic emotions in archetypal stories like these don’t need to be hammered in through mime & exposition, they just need to be felt honestly.
I think the lack of that, in the end, is what left me feeling cold.
