About the Project
Pastor Derby, a well-meaning conspiracy theorist preacher in rural Montana, loses a grip on his ironclad faith after suffering world-shattering misfortunes, including a dead wife, suicidal daughter and “compulsory sabbatical.” Derby is fiercely determined to find comfort in Job’s story – who maintained his faith after God allowed Lucifer to test it – but teeters on the brink of insanity trying to process the impossible with his intellect. Montana Gravity is an exploration of the tendency of people in scientific societies to process faith rationally rather than creatively, which, perhaps, was the ancient domain of religion. Trust us: it’s a comedy.
