Two days before his 53rd birthday, William Shakespeare goes to his attic to rewrite his will in an effort to protect his twin daughter from her derelict husband. As he works amongst his old scripts, props and costumes, gathered in the attic, William starts to reminisce about his life and career. Suddenly, his Muse appears. William is not pleased to see her. They bicker from the start. William demands he leave her, they are done. The Muse refuses to go until “it is done.”
What follows is a thrilling, funny, often heart-wretching journey through the playwright’s life, career and plays as William and his inspiration, who uses only Shakespeare’s words and thoughts from his plays, skirmish over the ‘true’ story that is the playwright’s legacy.
