Better Than Shakespeare presents: Much Ado About Something

These guys PLAY! That's the most exciting part of this show is that you can tell the cast is having fun most of the time. There seemed to be a louder pulse amongst the alien scenes; it would have been fun to see how a full alien take over affected MUCH ADO, now it seems like a side dish. Like those amazing mashed potatoes at Thanksgiving that you just keep going back for and wanting another pound of when they are all gone... Once you gave me aliens - all I wanted was more silliness and campiness of the aliens. The actor playing the role of Smith attacked the role of servant to alien slayer with amazing ease, he made me giggle the whole show. Arthur Keng was also wonderful as a hobbled alien plotting to take over the world. ... full review

There is a sweet madness that this show gives off and a joy that comes from ripping apart Shakespeare and making it a hoot. Exuberent performances abound in this retelling of Much Ado plus aliens. From fun devices to create the "deformed ones," to irreverent soliloquies (notably Arthur Keng), and neon glowsticks to create the mood, this Shakespeare is on the trail of something good. Once you give in to the silliness you're in for a fun ride... Like the other reviewers, however, I wanted even more silliness. I mean if you're gonna do aliens with Shakespeare, let's see more aliens! At this point we don't even care about plot, so when the aliens disappeared for a while I was a little bummed. But over all it was a good time. I especially liked the use of live music/sound effects.... full review

Tell ya friends. Tell ya neighbors. This is by far my favorite show of Fringe thus far. Yes please, more please. Bravo to Megan Kelly for her brilliant directing/writing prowess! The show is tight, and every single moment is given due note. Arthur Keng is an especially incredible force, and every single choice he made was perfection. Because every moment was so cleverly mapped out, I found myself on the edge of my seat with anticipation, but completely confident that whatever came next, would be even better than the last. ... full review

Love quirky theatre. The kind you get from actors and writers who are just branching out and have lots of creative ideas. This is one of those shows. I, for one, think even the Bard can be turned upside down for fun and entertainment and this was one of those times that worked on many levels. Decent performances and the live sound effects were a real treat!... full review
