Improvisational guitar is a language in its own right. To be improvisational is taking maximum emotional risk in an effort to convey depth in character. Actors do it…and so can musicians. It is analogous to taking a blank slate and creating something in the immediate moment. Doing this instrumentally
has fascinating appeal since it is unplanned, not contemplated, and subconsciously inspired. It is a pristine experience with purity at its core. It transcends one’s need for control, combines discordance with consonance,
and paves the way to a higher consciousness filled with beauty, passion, and a sense of fulfillment in one’s art.
