My overall impression

I am an Ex New Yorker so I love the theater and all of the arts,
as this is part of my geo- DNA.

Last night’s performance of “NEXT TO NORMAL
absolutely thrilled and impressed me.
It not only was artfully directed, but the musical
talent of the cast was almost unbeleivable!
How could a group of High School ( and some middle school)
tweens be so brave as to approach the adult themed book while
singing a complicated and magnificent operetta? YES, sing the entire two acts. Magnificent voices and intense and important
subject matter, all sung perfectly and staged simply and artfully.

I asked the Director, a 15 year old, how she came to choose this
story, in particular. Her answer: “it was the music that got me! It has seven part harmonnies!” " Seven-part harmonies? "
How could a 15 year old even get that, no less understand its significance?

A couple of stars were born last night.
This is well worth seeing.
Not to be missed, in fact.
