Consider the Night

This is an inventive way of presenting three separate works in progress (adaptations of Passing by Nella Larsen, The Underdogs by Mariano Azuela, and Nightwood by Djuna Barnes). Director Kate Motzenbacker has done a great job of piecing together the three works, interweaving them into one performance, all the while ensuring that each piece never gets lost. They also have a wonderfully captivating ensemble giving top-notch performances. There are some lovely threads thus far and I look forward to seeing how they develop. Consider the Night is irreverent, funny, and moving. It is tantalizingly brief - I was left wanting to know so much more about these characters and stories, seemingly unrelated but deftly interwoven. There are unexpected moments of absurd hilarity and beautiful conversations between family members who were never alive together and yet are intimately connected. It's everything a Fringe show should be - short, very watchable yet mysterious, unconventional, and unlike any other show.... full review

A really interesting mash-up of three works in progress, that make me want to know more about all three shows. Thematically they did blend well together. It's hard for me to put into words not just how much I enjoyed this show but exactly all the many ways I enjoyed it. CONSIDER THE NIGHT is beautifully directed, the action is seamless without feeling rushed ever, the pace is wonderful and fluid and the stories and moments are touching and real while telling an overarching story that is poignant and beautiful while wonderfully subtle and personal. But I can't stop there because the performances are equally well done. Perfectly cast and sincerly portrayed, each of the characters hits you in the heart at one point or another and it's hard not to love them all a little by the end, in the most understanding and empathetic way possible. What a beautiful show! Please do yourself a favor and catch this if you have the chance. A fascinating adaptation of three different literary works into interweaving stories, that left me wanting more. These are fascinating, relevant stories from voices we do not hear often enough. The whole ensemble of actors was great, with particularly (and oh so refreshingly) strong yet nuanced female characters. More of this, please! Lots of great dialogue and beautiful moments, both visually and verbally; this speaks to an excellent communication & collaboration between actors, writers and director.
