The writing felt realistic, and all of the characters felt like people I might have known. The set really sold this large messy apartment, I especially loved the “patio” or front porch scenes with the window set piece, that felt super special when characters had scenes outside. Some unsung heroes of the piece were the actors who played roles virtually, like a professor, yoga instructor, a parent. All of these minor roles played a huge part in realizing the world more completely.
What I didn't like
I felt some of the story beats brought up didn’t have a conclusion. I think with more time (perhaps developing it into a two act play), these things could be explored fully and brought to a satisfying end. Alternatively, focusing more on the vignettes of being super high while dealing with zoom classes, roommate drama, romance, queerness, etc might be a great way to bring this story to life. In it’s current state it sits somewhere in between, and I left wanting a little bit more.
I also struggled to hear often, and would have loved to hear this with mics on the actors or with a bit more projection.
My overall impression
A roommate-appreciation story, very relatable for those of us in college during quarantine. The massive and ambitious apartment set looked awesome, and some of the references to the time period were so on the money, I got whiplash.
