The topic of the show—the soul-sickening nature and klepto-capitalist structure of social media—is rendered with both great humor and real gravitas. Joey is a nonjudgmental host and guide through their own humanist revelation and an exploration of a path forward for a culture that is currently lost in the sauce of a collective dopamine addiction. Yes, Joey is silly and cracks hilarious jokes, but is also absolutely right about the current digital boot on the necks of the working people of the world, and that humorous approach allows for painless and judgment-free introspection for the audience.
Also: Piñata of Joy! The interactive elements were extremely fun and, dare I say, immersive.
What I didn't like
I’m sure that the A/V snags will be ironed out for the next show, and Sibling Joey’s delivery of the immersive and interactive script is only going to get tighter and more practiced with each performance.
The position of the podium made it so that Sibling Joey often blocked my view of the projected screen, which meant I missed out on some visual punchlines. Consider moving the podium back toward the screen and just off to the side so there are no obstructed sight lines. This would also give more room for the piñata of joy!
My overall impression
I found THECHURCH OF DELETEYOURACCOUNT to be a prescient, uplifting, and pointed show that will stay with me for a long time. Sibling Joey and the rest of the cast & crew bring forth the gospel truth of the evils of social media, and outline a path to digital salvation in this prescient, uplifting, and pointed show.
I will be coming back for another performance, and I will be bringing my social media-addicted friends to be SAVED! Hallelujah!
