The pacing is FANTASTIC – you’re just flying along. Sometimes in one person shows I feel like people are really unfolding and prolonging their emotional beats beyond what is sustainable – it starts to feel like a poem instead of a show. But in this show, you’re are flying through the story, still laughing at the last bit when the emotional arc takes a turn and you gasp with outrage. Perfect length. Super.
What I didn't like
There were a couple of odd tech moments – I don’t think they were intentional: at one point music started blasting then suddenly shut off and there were some moments when maybe the light cues got confused? Not sure. I attended the preview so this will likely all get ironed out. Go see it!!
My overall impression
This is a Joyful show about Heavy topics! Noadiah really pulls off a feat here – the courage, the skill, the power – of talking about things that hurt like family schisms, gender violence, racism, intolerance and yet he makes it fun. At the end I wondered: how did I laugh so much about things that grieve me? Do yourself a favor and come see this show – get a hit of HOPE!
